We recently bid bon voyage to Emily Berman, who I affectionately call one of our “founding members” of the AHEC staff, as she was one of the original staff who was present during the 2015 transition of the SC Alaska AHEC from Providence Alaska Medical Center to the Alaska Primary Care Association. Emily originally joined the AHEC team as an Americorps VISTA Service Member, then transitioned to be a Health Education Coordinator after a year of service. She made many contributions to the AHEC during her time here mentoring students, building curriculum, and cultivating relationships. Her imprint is on much of the work at the SC AHEC.

Emily will be pursing her dream and Masters in Social Work Program at Smith College. We know she will make an amazing Social Worker and will contribute greatly to this profession. We will miss her dearly, but know our paths will cross in the future.

Her bio on the AHEC website 2015-2019 read: Emily served for a year as an AmeriCorps national service volunteer to pursue her passion for social justice. Her interdisciplinary interests in the biological sciences, education, and social work have all prepared her for a career in behavioral public health. She is thrilled to lead a program that makes health careers more accessible for underserved Alaskan youth in her role as a Health Education Coordinator. In her free time, she is happiest outdoors and with a good book or guitar.

Best,

Mari
